The Department of Computer Science was put in place in 2000 enrolling a total of 147 students in certificate and diploma programs in the regular and extension divisions. Following the new training and education policy of the country, the Department has started implementing the TVET curriculum and diploma programs. In the 2004/5 Academic Year, the Department launched Degree Program in Computer Science. In the year 2005/6, the Department was raised to the level of faculty – Faculty of Informatics. So far, the Faculty has graduated nearly 1000 students with Diploma and Degree.

The Degree Program runs for the duration of three years in the regular and four years in the extension divisions. Each level of the TVET program takes 1 year for regular and 1½ years for extension students.
