WELCOME MESSAGE

Welcome to St. Mary’s University College (SMUC) – a pioneer private higher education institution with commendable achievements in teaching-learning, research and outreach activities.

Our achievements over the last decade are the source of pride and comfort for both the institution and the sector at large. So far, we have managed to graduate more than twenty thousand students in the conventional and distance modes.  In our continuous quest for improvement, we are increasingly strengthening the student support system in both modes of learning. The Center for Educational Improvement, Research and Quality Assurance (CEIRQA) and the Academic Development and Resource Center (ADRC) are but two units entrusted with the task of spearheading our efforts in this direction. 

The involvement of SMUC in research-related activities is also augmenting. The National Conference on Private Higher Education Institutions in Ethiopia, which SMUC hosts annually, was held in August 2007 for the fifth time in a row. In a similar vein, the institution has embarked on a wide-ranging publication scheme.  Accordingly, a few publications have already come out and others are on the pipeline. In this regard, the Business Faculty and the Faculty of Law have launched their journals and the Teacher Education Faculty is on the verge of upgrading its quarterly bulletin to a biannual journal. SMUC’s institutional links with local and foreign institutions are consistently and encouragingly on the rise. 

Our outreach activities have been extended to benefit our immediate community and the society at large.  Our faculty, support staff and students are one large family committed to ensure that St. Mary’s cherishes continuous improvement.  We feel that we are strategically poised to demonstrate excellence in the third millennium.  It is always a pride to be part of such an institution.
